After the II World War, VARIG
acquired a great fleet of DC-3 aircraft. With "Douglinhas", as they
were called, on August 17, 1946 Porto Alegre-São Paulo-Rio
de Janeiro route was inaugurated. DC-3 operated in all interstate and
international lines, linking Porto Alegre to Montevideo and Buenos
Aires. By the end of 60’s they flew only in Rio Grande do Sul and
Santa Catarina states.
When VARIG bought Real airlines, in 1961, VARIG's DC-3 fleet doubled
to 49 operational units.
For 25 years, those aircrafts had rendered quality services to
VARIG, both in passengers and cargo transportation.
