With the success of Boeing
767-200ER, VARIG decided to purchase the larger version, Boeing
767-300ER. The first Boeing 767-341ER (PP-VOI) arrived in December
1989, followed by three more units (PP-VOJ, in February, PP-VOK, in
June, and PP-VOL, in August 1990) ordered directly from Boeing
factory. The B767-300ER operated international flights of lower
demand, between Rio de Janeiro, the USA and Europe, between the
Northeast major cities and USA and Europe and between São Paulo and
South America. In addition, they were also used in some domestic
routes with high demand and charter flights.
In 1997 Boeing 767-300ER fleet was expanded with the receipt of
PP-VPW (in November) and PP-VPV (in December), both previously
operated on Canadian Airlines. In the domestic market, Boeing
767-300ER operated between São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre,
Belo Horizonte, Manaus, Salvador, Recife and Fortaleza. In South
America, Boeing 767-300ER could be seen in Buenos Aires, Santiago,
Lima, Bogotá and Caracas. Around the world Boeing 767-300ER was a
sure in Mexico City and Cancun, it could also be seen in Miami,
Lisbon, Madrid, Milan, Paris and Frankfurt.
In July 2003 VARIG acquired more units, PP-VTC and PP-VTE, from Euro
Atlantic Airways, starting to operate eight Boeing 767-300ER
simultaneously, in an attempt to minimize B767-200ER withdrawal.
However, in December 2004 PP-VOL was returned.
In 2005 PP-VOK was returned in July, and PP-VPW in September. The
remaining five Boeing 767-300ERs statyed in the fleet until the end
of VARIG's operations in June 2006. PP-VOI and PP-VOJ went to
Business Air Thailand in June and April 2010, respectively. PP-VTC
and PP-VTV went to Euro Atlantic Airways in June 2008 and February
2010, respectively. PP-VTE went to STP Airways in December 2008.
