TRIP (Transporte Aéreo Regional do Interior Paulista) was part
of Caprioli group and started operations in early 1998 with charter
flights. The airline operated routes in Sao Paulo State, with
EMB-120 and ATR-42-300, and then expanded through Brazil’s Midwest and Northern. TRIP disputed
with Taf, Rico and especially Total, the leadership of regional
market.
In May 2, 2005 the company received permission to flight in Brazil's north, then adding mores cities in its network: Barcelos, Carauari, Coari, Eirunepé, Fonte Boa, Humaita Lábrea, Manaus, Porto Velho, Santa Isabel do Rio Negro, São Gabriel da Cachoeira, Sao Paulo Olivença, Tabatinga and Tefé.
In 2007 TRIP was the second largest regional airline in Brazil, just after Total. Soon after Total, TRIP also ordered ATR-42-500 and ATR-72-200. But late 2007 TRIP announced merger with Total and formed the largest regional airline of South America. TRIP assumed Total’s aircraft and routes, but Total remained independent in cargo sector as Total Cargo with ATR-42 and Boeing 727.
In 2008 TRIP increased its network and become the airline with the largest network in the country. The airline also announced an order for Embraer’s E-Jets and launched a new visual identity.
In July 2010 TRIP announced an order for an even larger aircraft, the E-190.
In March 2011 Tam announced intention to buy 31% of TRIP. The two airlines already had a code-share agreement since 2004. In September TRIP announced an order for more ATR aircraft, but this time for ATR-72-600. With that order, TRIP become the largest ATR operator in the world.
In November 2011 Trip was the second airline in Brazil and one of the first in world to receive the new ATR-72-600.
In June 2012 Trip announced a merge with Azul. Gradually TRIP brand was being replaced by Azul. The merge was completed in 2014 and TRIP brand disappeared from the skies.
